Sodium silicate solution is produced by melting solid silicate in autoclaves. It is divided into two main types: – alkaline silicates with a SiO2: Na2O ratio of 1.6 -: – 2; – neutral silicates with a SiO2: Na2O ratio of 2 -: – 3.5. Neutral silicates are used as raw material for the production of precipitated silica, metal silicates and refractory substances.
